A Wizz Air flight from London Luton to Sofia was diverted to Budapest on Monday after a bomb threat was received during the flight. The plane landed safely, escorted by a Hungarian fighter jet, and no injuries have been reported.
A threat was received while the plane was in the air. Hungary’s Defence Minister, Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, said a Hungarian Gripen fighter jet escorted the aircraft to Budapest. After landing, it taxied to a designated stand, passengers were taken off and the aircraft and passengers were checked by the authorities.
Wizz Air confirmed the diversion. It said the aircraft landed safely “in accordance with the relevant security protocols and procedures” and that it is “cooperating fully with the authorities”.

The authorities have not said what the threat involved or whether anything was found. Police put extra security in place after the landing and an investigation is under way. We will update this article as more information comes in.
There is no sign of wider disruption at London Luton Airport. Passengers due to fly should check their flight status in the Wizz Air app or on the airline’s website before travelling.
