Sunderland stunned Chelsea 1-0 at the Stadium of Light, with Enzo Le Fée’s first-half penalty enough for only their second league win of the season.

Chelsea dominated the ball with 69% possession but created little, managing just three shots on target, as Sunderland defended deep and took their chance.

How it happened

Le Fée stepped up to score from the spot in the 36th minute. Chelsea made five substitutions in search of an equaliser, but Sunderland held firm in a tense finish that saw several bookings – including one for head coach Régis Le Bris for dissent in stoppage time.

What it means

Sunderland move up to eight points. Chelsea stay on 16 and miss the chance to close the gap on the top three, with Brighton winning against Brentford.
