Russell Brand has been found guilty of rape and sexual assault and has been remanded in custody ahead of sentencing on Monday.
A jury at Southwark Crown Court in London convicted the 51-year-old comedian and actor of one count of rape and three counts of sexual assault on Thursday, after two days of deliberations. He was found not guilty of two other counts of rape and one count of attempted indecent assault.
Brand had been on bail throughout the trial. The judge told him he faces a “significant custodial term” and remanded him in custody until he is sentenced on Monday.

Brand faced seven charges involving six women, relating to incidents between 1999 and 2009, when he was a well-known TV and radio presenter. The women cannot be identified, as complainants in sexual offence cases have lifelong anonymity in the UK.
Brand denied all the charges. His defence argued that a 2023 Channel 4 documentary about him had “poisoned the well of justice”. The prosecution said the documentary had not made the women change their memories, but had led them to come forward about experiences that had “haunted them for years”.
Brand became famous in the early 2000s as a presenter on MTV, Big Brother’s Big Mouth and BBC Radio 2, before moving into Hollywood films including Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Get Him to the Greek. In recent years he has built a large following online with videos about politics, religion and wellness.
The allegations against him first came to light in September 2023 in a joint investigation by The Times, The Sunday Times and Channel 4’s Dispatches. He was charged in April 2025.
