Good news for trick-or-treaters: Halloween night should stay dry across London and much of southern England, with high pressure in charge. The main hazard this weekend is fog, especially early on Sunday morning.

☁️ Dry, with cloud increasing later

🌧️ Chance of rain: under 5%, says the Met Office
🌇 Sunset: about 4:35pm, so it gets dark early

Fog on Sunday morning

The Met Office has warned that fog could form across parts of England and Wales over the Halloween weekend. Sunday is set to be cooler and cloudier, with fog overnight into the morning, highs of about 12C to 13C and only a small chance of light rain. If you are heading out early, for example to watch the Veteran Car Run in Hyde Park, allow extra time.

What about Storm Chloe?

Chloe is the next name on the 2026/27 storm list after Austen and Boelo, which brought England its wettest week in two years. But the Met Office has not named a new storm, and there is no sign of one hitting London this weekend. Its longer-range outlook suggests a growing chance of rain and stronger winds from mid-November.

Trick-or-treating tips

  • Wear something bright or reflective, as it is dark from about 4:35pm
  • Take a torch, which is also on the government’s Be Ready checklist
  • Add warm layers under costumes, as temperatures drop quickly after dark
