Ukraine has released bodycam footage which it says shows a deadly Russian “double-tap” bombing, in which police officers and rescuers were hit as they arrived to help people caught in a first strike on an aid distribution point.

At least 40 people were killed in the attack on the village of Komyshuvakha in the Zaporizhzhia region on Monday, according to President Volodymyr Zelensky, who said more than 30 more may still be under the rubble.

What the footage shows

The video was filmed on the body camera of a police officer who was killed in the attack. It was released by Ukraine’s national police on Wednesday. BBC Verify said it was filmed at the same place as footage from Ukraine’s emergency service.

A “double-tap” strike is when a second attack hits the same place shortly after the first, often catching rescuers and medics who have rushed to help. Ukrainian officials say four police officers and two rescue workers were among the dead.

“Very little reaction from the world”

Zelensky called it one of the deadliest attacks of the war and said there had been “very little reaction from the world” to it. He said the timing and place of the aid handout had been widely known.

Danielle Bell, head of the UN human rights monitoring mission in Ukraine, said Russian forces may have known a distribution was taking place.

The attack comes days before planned talks between Ukraine, Russia and the US in Abu Dhabi on 10 and 11 November. Zelensky has met US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner ahead of the talks.
