Queen Camilla’s gown for the final night of the royal visit to Antigua and Barbuda carried a special message for the host country, while the Prime Minister’s wife made a statement of a different kind with a £29.99 Zara bag.

The King and Queen hosted an official dinner in St John’s for Commonwealth leaders, their partners and delegates, marking the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Queen Camilla’s gown: the hidden meaning

Camilla wore a white crepe evening gown by Anna Valentine, one of her favourite British designers. The bodice was embroidered with dagger log, Antigua and Barbuda’s national flower.

The nod was well timed: the country marked 45 years of independence on 1 November. Camilla finished the look with diamond and gold earrings and a gold necklace from her own collection.

Mrs Burnham’s high-street touch

Marie-France van Heel, a former senior marketing executive who left her job to support her husband, paired her sequin gown with a slick bun and a Zara bag costing £29.99.

Earlier in the trip, on a visit to the Princess Margaret School in Antigua, she wore a pale blue midi dress by Victoria Beckham. She also chose Victoria Beckham, in lilac, when she arrived at Downing Street in July.
