Kilburn Music Mile returns in December: what is free and what needs a ticket

Kilburn’s next musical outing comes with an important distinction: most of the festival is free, but its orchestral finale needs a ticket. Kilburn State of Mind’s current announcement places Kilburn Music Mile from 3 to 11 December 2026, with performances and cultural events across the High Road and surrounding neighbourhood. If you are starting to fill the December diary, these are the dates to use.

The organiser describes a mix of pub gigs, emerging artists, established performers, film and exhibitions. A full venue-by-venue programme is still promised rather than published on its homepage, so this is an early planning guide, not a finished running order. There is enough to save the festival dates, but not enough to promise a particular free act at a particular pub.

The free festival and the ticketed finale

The festival’s own page says almost everything is free, identifying the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra concert at the Gaumont State as the ticketed exception. That matters when sharing the news with friends: a free festival does not mean every performance has free entry, and a concert ticket should not be treated as a pass for the whole neighbourhood programme.

Kilburn State of Mind’s Eventbrite listing places the orchestral evening on Friday 11 December at the Gaumont State, 197–199 Kilburn High Road, NW6 7HY. The listing gives doors at 6.30pm and an event window of 7pm to 10pm. That window is useful for planning, but it should not be read as a promise of three uninterrupted hours of music.

The listing describes festive favourites and seasonal classics. Check its current ticket options, total price and conditions before paying; we have not verified a ticket price for this guide. Anyone attending with children should also check the specific admission arrangements rather than assuming that an all-ages listing answers every question about supervision or seating.

Why the Gaumont State matters

There is a recent chapter behind the orchestra’s return. In its own account published on 20 November 2025, the RPO describes performing at the Gaumont State on 6 November that year, its first concert there since 1978. Ben Pope conducted, with Anna-Jane Casey and Iain Mackenzie joining the orchestra for a programme drawing on Kilburn’s musical connections.

That is background to last year’s performance, not this December’s confirmed cast or repertoire. The distinction is worth keeping: photographs, reviews and videos from the 2025 festival can offer a sense of the occasion, but they do not establish who will appear in 2026. Use this year’s event listing when deciding whether the programme is for you.

Plan around the actual venue

Our practical suggestion is to choose one performance as the anchor for your evening once the full programme appears, then see what else fits nearby. A festival spread across a high street is easier to enjoy when you leave room between stops. Trying to squeeze several venues into a tight timetable can turn an inexpensive night of discovery into a dash between doorways.

Check the address for each performance rather than navigating to the charity’s office. Kilburn State of Mind is based at the PlayHut in Kilburn Grange Park, while the festival announcement covers multiple locations. Its general contact page provides a way to ask the organiser about arrangements that the programme does not yet explain.

Access requirements also need checking at the individual venue. A step-free community space does not establish step-free access at every pub, stage or concert building in a wider festival. Ask about entrances, seating and facilities before making a firm plan, and check your outward and homeward journeys nearer the date.

For now, save 3–11 December and keep the ticketed 11 December concert separate from the free programme. Return to the organiser’s current listings for the full schedule. The best discovery of the evening may be an unfamiliar artist, but the date, venue and entry conditions should not be a surprise.
